A corona vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is being taken out of the Danish vaccination program due to rare side effects.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is known to require only one sting, while the other vaccines require two. This is the vaccine that Denmark has purchased the most.
The vaccine, like the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was withdrawn from the Danish vaccination program in April, is suspected of having caused side effects in the form of blood clots.
Read more about the side effects here:
* In April, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended a break in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. It was to be “especially careful”. Since then, Americans have resumed using the vaccine.
* On April 23, 7.98 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine were given in the United States. Of these, 13,725 were reported as possible side effects. 97 percent of the messages were categorized as “not serious” and three percent as “serious”.
* 15 of the reports concerned Vitt syndrome, which is a type of rare blood clot in combination with a low platelet count. The same rare side effect has also been observed with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
* Among the 15 reports, three deaths were recorded on 23 April.
* Seven were still hospitalized and five had been discharged.
* All Vitt reports were about women aged 18 to 49 years.
