Construction would therefore begin in the summer of 2023 and the plant would begin commercial operations in 2029.
The schedule is presented last week as an appendix to the building permit application, which the consortium submitted to the Ministry of Employment and the Economy in 2015. According to the addition, Fennovoima has also increased the project’s cost estimate by EUR 6.5-7.0 billion to – and their administrative expenses.
The appendix outlines the relevant changes and developments that have taken place in the project since the initial application was submitted.
“The preconditions for the project remain in place and the update will not affect its scope” sure Joachim Specht, CEO of Fennovoima.
The consortium will continue to shift the focus to the construction phase of the project.
– At the moment, it is important for both us and the plant supplier to prepare for the future phases of the project, whether it is the construction or start-up of the plant. Based on the design materials, we know that we will have a large nuclear power plant that can be built on Hanhiniemi Bay, meeting strict Finnish requirements, ”Specht said.
