- Reducing methane leakage from the fossil fuel industry, waste management and agriculture would be relatively inexpensive and could have both rapid and effective effects on the climate, according to a new UN study.
- These include plugging leaks in the extraction of oil, gas and coal, and collecting gas that leaks from landfills. Researchers estimate that a 45 percent reduction in methane emissions in ten years could limit global warming by 0.3 degrees in the coming decades.
