Travelers to or from the eruption site can enjoy Icelandic hot dogs and a cup of hot coffee. Rescuers from the Þórkatll group set up a container that is not far from the eruption site and opened a shop called Ellubúð.
Guðrún Kristín Einarsdóttir, president of the accident prevention department in Þórkatll, said it took a long time to start up the shop, but everything is now working as it should.
“We had a lot of work to prepare everything. We have the biggest traffic from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. when people return from the mountains “ said Guðrún.
People want hot dogs and coffee
Guide Adolf Ingi Erlingsson he admitted in an interview with journalists visir.isit is obvious that the eruption is attracting so many interested in the phenomenon. The number of tourists is growing on an unprecedented scale.
“Hot dogs and sandwiches, drinks, coffee and chocolate are on sale. We also have an idea to add cocoa because there are many inquiries “ says Guðrún.
However, nothing beats hot dogs, and then coffee, they are the most popular. “It’s amazing how many hot dogs you can eat” commented, adding that the price is a little higher than other places.
“We try to keep the price moderate, this is a way to raise money for us and the rescue team” she added.
The changes in the store are very long because people come down from the mountains even at 2 am. Consequently, the store was open at 8pm, but Guðrún said it is due to open around 4pm on the weekend.
Why is the store called Ellubúð?
“That’s because the woman who gave us the container was named Elín Pálfríður Alexandersdóttir. She is no longer alive. She was one of the founders of the Þórkatll faculty. We called her Ella and that’s why we named her container after her – Ellubúð “ Guðrún replied.
