- Following the Scottish Parliamentary election, in which the SNP won a landslide victory but did not gain a majority, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has invited the heads of government of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to discuss future challenges for Britain.
- Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon, however, according to British media, has already declined the meeting and calls Johnson undemocratic who does not agree to a new referendum on independence for Scotland.
- Several observers believe that the issue of a new referendum on Scottish independence may end up in the British Supreme Court.
