Capital County Police announced on their Facebook page that from May 11, drivers whose cars are still on studded tires will be fined.
The penalties for using studded tires are ISK 20,000 per tire. Therefore, car drivers face fines of up to ISK 80,000.
According to the ordinance, the police could start imposing fines from April 15, but due to the weather they decided not to do so.
Drivers are not allowed to use studded tires between April 15th and October 31st. During this time, all vehicles should have their tires changed.
