Among those convicted are two Brazilians named Jovane Andrade Junior and Sonia Maria Gervasio Sales.
They were the ones who transported the cocaine from Brazil to Denmark.
They smuggled the cocaine in through Copenhagen Airport. The fabrics were sewn into the inner fabric of their suitcases, which is why the Copenhagen Police named the case Operation Trolley.
From here, the cocaine was handed over to Tommy Kent Svendsen and Peter Yde Saltoft, who have been sentenced to five and ten years in prison, respectively.
According to the indictment, the cocaine was then repackaged at Bent Jørgen Larsen’s home. He has been given eight years and six months in prison.
The 31-year-old Christian Jensen has also been sentenced to seven years in prison in the case. However, it is unclear exactly what his role in the case is.
He was accused of being one of the leading ringleaders along with Peter Yde Saltoft. It is not yet clear whether this is what he has been convicted of, but he has received a shorter prison sentence than Peter Yde Saltoft.
A 32-year-old man was also acquitted in court.
The police believed that he had also played a leading role in the case, but the court has not found that to be proven.
– It was the prosecution’s view that all the accused should have been convicted, but the court has assessed the evidence differently, says prosecutor Kristoffer Petersen.
He will not yet say whether he intends to appeal the case to the High Court.
– Now we will just go home and read the verdict and see how it has been justified. So we think about that, he says.
In addition, another man and a woman are also suspected of being involved in the case. Police believe they have been responsible for smuggling the cocaine into the country.
However, their case is being investigated independently because the police have still not been able to arrest them. They are in demand internationally.
