Lukko has won the men’s hockey championship series for the first time in 58 years.
The Rauma club won the Turku TPS 6-2 (2–0, 2–2, 2–0) final series in the fourth match to win the championship in three matches together. Lukk’s only previous championship victory came in 1963.
Head coach Pekka Virta told broadcaster C More after the game that he has been building a team for four years, focusing on each player understanding their own role and team culture.
"Our game was in good shape after last season, so we were able to invest in the team" Power said. "We have a really great team and they are very committed. Good players win in the end and have credit."
Power had spent 27 days in intensive care earlier this year after receiving the coronavirus, and lost nearly two months of work in the playoff series.
The lock’s victory sparked joyous celebrations on the streets of the West Coast town, where fans had gathered downtown to watch Tuesday night’s game.
