On Friday evening, however, officers are still present in large numbers in the neighborhood around Svanemøllen Station on Ydre Østerbro. This is what duty officer Paw Kaltoft from the Copenhagen Police says shortly before 7.30 pm.
– We are massively present at Svanemøllen Station and further towards the city, where larger crowds drift around, he says.
The Israeli embassy is located in the embassy district on Lundevangsvej in Hellerup close to Svanemøllen Station.
Train operations have been suspended for several hours between Hellerup Station and Svanemøllen due to the unrest.
Earlier, duty officer Henrik Stormer stated that approximately 4,000 participants took part in the demonstration at the Israeli embassy.
Of these, 50 to 100 have made a mess by throwing stones and cannon shots at the police and the embassy, the chief of guards said.
The police were present with battle-dressed officers and dogs on Lundevangsvej to quell the unrest. In that connection, three or four officers and two patrol cars were hit by stones.
– However, the officers have not been seriously injured, says Paw Kaltoft.
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the demonstration and the aftermath in Hellerup and on Ydre Østerbro.
– But when the riots are over, we start questioning witnesses and collecting video surveillance, so we can hold as many perpetrators as possible responsible, says Paw Kaltoft.
The demonstration was organized in response to the ongoing unrest in Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Israeli military has been bombing targets in the Gaza Strip since Monday, while Palestinian militants have fired rockets at Israel.
Since Monday, at least 122 people have been killed in Gaza and 900 others injured. In Israel, eight people have been killed – six of them civilians.
