The Swedish counterpart to the Danish Immigration Service, the Swedish Migration Agency, considers several places in Syria to be safe for Syrians to return to.
Jyllands-Posten writes this on the basis of a report from the Swedish Migration Board from February 2021.
The Swedish authorities’ assessment concerns, among other things, the area around the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The situation in the provinces of Damascus and Rif Damascus can be “considered relatively stable”, the Swedish asylum authority writes in the report.
The Danish Immigration Service also considers that it is safe to send Syrians back to this area.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye (S) points out that the report from the Swedish Migration Agency emphasizes that Denmark is not alone in wanting to send Syrian refugees back to Damascus.
– It tells first and foremost that the Danish authorities are not alone in their assessment of the situation in the Damascus area, says Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye (S) to the newspaper.
