- The new media giant, which has not yet been named, will combine Discovery’s range of documentaries and various forms of reality television with Warner Media’s broad holdings of television channels and film production.
- Discovery, for example, contributes nature-oriented Animal Planet and Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network, while Warner Media owns everything from the news channel CNN to the TV channel HBO, as well as the classic film company Warner Brothers, which is also part of the deal.
- The merger takes place less than three years after the telecommunications company AT&T bought Time Warner – and the deal is seen as a sign that the indebted AT&T must now focus on its core business.
