It is a misinterpretation that corona vaccines should have killed more than the disease itself.
So clear is the message from both researchers and authorities to a story that is currently abounding on social media.
The story is based on access to documents from the Statens Serum Institut (SSI), which shows that 4415 people in Denmark have died within 30 days after receiving either the first or second bite with a coronavine vaccine until 11 May this year.
In comparison, 2503 people in Denmark died of coronavirus during the entire corona pandemic.
It is interpreted by several on social media as meaning that the vaccines are more dangerous than the disease itself. But that is not the case, it sounds from SSI.
– The Statens Serum Institut does not know the causes of death, but since these are largely elderly people and vulnerable citizens, the causes of death will of course also be completely normal for the groups.
– It is therefore wrong to conclude that a total of 4415 people have died from the vaccine, SSI writes in a statement.
The media CheckIt has talked to a number of researchers about the figures. Here, too, the conclusion is that there is nothing unusual in the numbers and that the vaccines have not killed the vaccinated.
That 4415 vaccinated have died sounds completely as expected. People die as time goes on, and that’s just what you see in these figures, says Theis Lange, professor of biostatistics at the University of Copenhagen, to TjekDet.
The media has also spoken with Viggo Andreasen, associate professor and epidemic researcher at Roskilde University. He is also not surprised by the number of deaths, which he finds very natural.
– Many of those who have been vaccinated are older people.
– In the period here of just over four months, there will normally be around 20,000 deaths, and the vast majority of deaths we will usually see in the exact age group that has been vaccinated, says Viggo Andreasen to TjekDet.
According to SSI, around 22,500 people normally die in Denmark over the same period that access to documents covers.
At the moment, however, one can see a very low death rate in Denmark, so there is actually a situation of mortality, SSI informs.
According to the serum institute, this is partly due to the fact that the usual flu epidemic has not occurred due to the coronary restrictions and the less contact between people.
