A 26-year-old man from Viborg, who is originally from Syria, escapes being expelled for throwing a stone at party founder Rasmus Paludan.
The Western High Court has decided that, writes Viborg Stifts Folkeblad.
The man was by a judgment in June 2019 in the Court in Viborg otherwise expelled with a ban on entry for six years.
The young man threw the stone at Rasmus Paludan, who is the founder of the party Stram Kurs, during a demonstration in Ellekonebakken in Viborg on 13 April 2019.
According to Viborg Stifts Folkeblad, the man explained in the city court that he had not planned to participate in the counter-demonstration, but that he happened to be in the neighborhood.
In addition, he was very drunk and affected. He himself assessed that he had drunk at least 12 items and that he had also drunk petrol.
He admitted to having thrown the stone, which hit Rasmus Paludan. He explained that Paludan’s attitudes and actions provoked him, as he himself is a refugee from the war-torn country.
In addition to deportation, the city court sentenced him to an unconditional prison sentence of 60 days. But the district court has ruled that he should face a suspended sentence of three months in prison with a requirement for 80 hours of community service.
The prison sentence has been increased, as the man since the episode with Paludan has been convicted of vandalism and violation of the Narcotics and Traffic Act, writes Viborg Stifts Folkeblad. But it is conditional, so it should not be served in the first place.
According to the newspaper, the high court emphasizes, among other things, that the man has gained more control over his life, goes to school, has a part-time job, has been married and is expecting a child.
The court has also emphasized that Rasmus Paludan was not seriously injured by the stone-throwing. The long case processing time since the episode has also had an impact on the verdict.
