For the same reason, she is an icon among gays, where her visual shows and wild costumes have aroused enthusiasm throughout a nearly 60-year career.
In addition to more than 1,000 concerts, she has for long periods been a fixture at Las Vegas & apos; scenes.
And Cher fits Vegas well. Colored and wild too much and now also with a facial expression and a body that has gradually hardened in plastic surgery.
Yet there is something atoning about Cher’s self-irony. Like when on her latest piece of equipment of a tour, which also reached Copenhagen in 2019, she joked with songs she did not sing. But which she could just take with her on her next farewell tour.
Cher, with the original name Cherilyn Sarkisian, is first and foremost an actress, as one reviewer once described her many style changes. Therefore, she has also managed to reinvent herself countless times and return with new star glitter.
She broke through in Sonny & Cher with her husband Sonny Bono in the 60’s. They got a huge hit with “I & apos; ve Got You, Babe” and also a popular TV show.
But when they divorced after 11 years, Cher set a new course and with the song “Dark Lady” got a million sales and his own TV show.
She trained as an actress. The ’80s were her big film era, where she won awards for her roles. First with Meryl Streep in Mike Nichols & apos; “Silkwood” (Oscar nominated), in “Mask” as the mother of a disfigured child (best female lead in Cannes) and finally “Whimsical Moon”, which gave her an Oscar.
After an illness in the 1990s, she made another unexpected comeback in 1998 with a change of course to dance diva with the album “Believe”, which has sold over 20 million copies.
Here she also formed school with the “Cher effect”, which led many other artists to start using her famous sound effect autotune.
After a long successful tour, she stopped touring with a farewell concert in Hollywood in 2005.
But of course that’s not how it should go. In 2013, she released her 25th album “Closer to the Truth”.
Since then, she spelled around in both Abba films, which inspired her to record an album in 2018 only with Abba cover tracks.
In total, she has sold over 100 million albums throughout her career, which few believe ends just because she is now rounding the age of 75.
In addition to Sonny Bono, she was briefly married to musician Gregg Allmann. She has a child with each of them. The most famous is her daughter Chastity, who closely followed the media changed gender and became Chaz Bono.
