- In the Eurovision final in Rotterdam, Russia is represented by the artist Manizja and her song “Russian woman”, but in her home country she and her song have aroused strong feelings, also at the highest political level.
- Valentina Matvienko, speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, says the song is detrimental to the traditional Russian family image and Manizja, born in Tajikistan, has been accused of not being Russian enough to represent the country.
- But the artist has also received strong support among Russians and the criticism has been harsh against the hate campaign that met her.
