Since then, he has said that he does not want to “drum up a political majority”, and SF has opposed the plan, which apparently has removed a majority for an exit center on Langeland.
And now an image is forming that the blue parties will return to the old plan from the VLAK government with support from the Danish People’s Party in 2019, which would place the exit center on the island of Lindholm in Stege Bay with ferry operations from Kalvehave.
In any case, the Liberal Party believes that this is the best solution, and now the Conservatives’ chairman, Søren Pape Poulsen, is at the forefront of the proposal, which, however, does not immediately gather a majority.
– We have not changed our minds. There are no people who want this center near where they live. And here Lindholm was the solution. I would urge those parties that can see the problem well to reconsider, instead of creating insecurity in 97 other municipalities, about what should happen now, he says.
He urges SF to reconsider Lindholm. If a single blue bloc merges with SF and more non-attached members join, a majority can be formed.
However, it is only a few days ago that the party’s foreign affairs spokesman called the Lindholm idea “foolish” and “not something we are supporters of”.
Søren Pape Poulsen notes that the party has not pointed to an alternative.
– It would suit SF to point to another place. It is easy to say no if you do not point to something else.
Question: But why should SF cooperate with you on this?
– They must be somewhere. I urge SF to do so. The government no longer has their majority, and so I think one should be open to Lindholm. Or the government could come to its senses and open up to it, he says.
– No matter where we place it, people are dissatisfied. We have noticed it when we in the old government placed it on Lindholm. But now I think we need to give it one more shot, he says.
There was thus great opposition among local politicians and locals in the area around the island three years ago when the then plan for an exit center was presented.
Søren Pape Poulsen says that he will make sure that a ferry will sail as little as possible from Kalvehave to Lindholm, if it should become a reality with an exit center on the island.
– They can not just one evening slip through a fence. After all, they need a ferry there. It should sail as little as possible. We have to see how far we can go in relation to the conventions, he says.
For almost 100 years, Lindholm was home to DTU’s veterinary research, which established laboratories on the island to research infectious diseases in animals.
After moving its research to Copenhagen, the island was completely cleaned of viruses in March this year and the keys were handed over to the Danish Building Authority.
