For those suffering from koi allergies, this spring has been one of the most difficult years. There have been historically high levels of pollen in the air in some places.
According to a pollen report from the University of Turku, one of the highest pollen concentrations in Finnish history was measured in Kuopio this spring. On May 12, the daily average of pollen particles was 29,269 per cubic meter of air.
The highest previously recorded daily records of birch pollen were in Imatra in 2012, when there were 36,018 particles per cubic meter and in Helsinki in 2014, 33,662 particles per cubic meter.
Annika SaartoThe docent at the University of Turku says that this year’s high pollen concentrations were observed at all measurement sites except Kevo in Utsjoki, where flowering has not yet begun.
According to the blockade, allergies have been particularly symptomatic this spring. This now affects many who have not previously suffered from a leg allergy or who have not had symptoms for years. In addition to birch, alder has also caused many allergic reactions this spring.
According to a clinical study, most people allergic to birch pollen have symptoms when exposed to more than a hundred pollen particles per cubic meter of air. There is plenty of pollen in the air when there are a thousand particles in a cubic meter.
At present, birch pollen is abundant in the air almost throughout Finland, although pollen concentrations have already decreased in southern Finland, and flowering has not yet begun in northernmost Lapland, Saarto said.
