Dallas Wings first round draft selection Awak Kuier, 19, is set to make his historic debut in the WNBA series against Atlanta Dreams. When she enters a U.S. court on Thursday night, she will become the first Finnish player to play in a leading women’s union.
The game starts at 2 Finnish time and will be broadcast on Yle Areena.
Kuier traveled to the United States last week, where he has practiced with the team, and also traveled with the team to Atlanta.
Kuier made Finnish basketball history earlier this spring, when he only became the second Finnish player Taru Tuukkanen, is being prepared for the WNBA. Dallas Wings chose Kuier as the second overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. Although Tuukkonen was elected, he never played or signed a contract in the league.
Wings have played three games this season, winning one and losing two.
