DR Nyheder, in collaboration with a number of foreign media, has revealed that the American intelligence service NSA has had access to internet cables that go in and out of Denmark.
The NSA has thus been able to spy on targeted heads of state, top politicians and high-ranking officials in Germany, Sweden, Norway and France.
This has led to the countries concerned asking for an explanation.
Mette Frederiksen said on Wednesday that there must be no systematic monitoring of allies.
At the same time, she did not believe that Denmark’s relations with, for example, Germany and France had suffered any damage.
– I do not think it is correctly made that there is a need to restore relations with France or Germany. We have an ongoing dialogue, so do we in the field of intelligence, she said.
On Wednesday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the countries involved to speak out.
– The nations involved in the case are NATO allies and have to get all the facts on the table and find out what actually happened, he told DR News.
