- “The proposal has good things, but also shortcomings and we must now produce supplementary proposals that strengthen the tenants’ position,” says Morgan Johansson (S) in a comment to the new investigation.
- “Our entrance is then a system based on good security for the tenant. There will be a negotiation and we are aiming for a bill to the Riksdag in 2022.”
- In the morning, a special investigator presented a proposal for a model for free renting.
The proposal for free rent is not the government’s wish but a compromise with the Liberals and the Center Party, says Morgan Johansson (S). As a result of meeting the co-operation parties’ desire for free rent, the government will get its housing policy through in the form of investment support for new production.
Housing construction is at historically high levels thanks to social democratic housing stimuli, says Morgan Johansson: “You have to go to the days of the million program to find something similar”.
The proposal for free renting concerns no one who lives in a tenancy today or who will move into a newly built house in the near future, the Minister emphasizes. It will affect some of those moving into housing completed by mid-2022.
According to the proposal, the landlord and tenant must agree on the rent, changes in the consumer price index and the apartment’s attractiveness must control the rent level.
