– The technician has finished his work. The chimney has been stabilized and then the barrier has been lifted, he says.
It was an employee at the recycling site on the outskirts of Rønne, who early Saturday morning observed that the chimney did not reach the sky with normal stability, and who then sounded the alarm.
The authorities feared that there was a danger of the 70-meter-high chimney collapsing, and therefore a technician from Esbjerg was called in to supervise the stabilizer in the swaying chimney.
– Outside our incineration plant at our recycling site, there is a 70 meter high chimney with a defective stabilizer. So this morning it stood and swayed dangerously, said duty officer Jesper Lund from Bornholm Police on Saturday.
According to Jesper Lund, the stabilizer is part of the chimney’s internal construction:
– It should be a kind of pendulum, which counteracts the swaying of the chimney due to the wind.
