As party secretary, he is the leading organizational employee of the Secretariat of the Social Democrats. And he serves as the day-to-day administrative manager of the organization.
– It is clear that when cases come up, and I can not deny that there will be more in the future, then we have a problem, he says.
– It takes time before everyone in the whole party understands the seriousness of this. We need to work with this and focus on it, and I think we are in the process of doing that, says Jan Juul Christensen.
One of the seven women who has come forward is a former trainee in the party. Among other things, she criticizes the party leadership for not acting against the employee in question immediately.
The Social Democrats deny having handled the complaints incorrectly.
– The case was dealt with when it came to the management’s knowledge, says Jan Juul Christensen with reference to the autumn of 2020.
– It is clear in Berlingske’s article that the former trainee did not think the case was handled satisfactorily, and I am of course sorry.
– But action was taken on the basis of the tools in the personnel policy toolbox.
– Some of the other things that have emerged are new to us and to me. The overall picture that has emerged in Berlingske is not one that we have witnessed in the autumn in connection with the personnel case in question, he says.
The man’s employment in the party ended with a voluntary resignation scheme at the end of 2020. Jan Juul Christensen will not say whether the man in question was fired, but says that “a voluntary resignation is voluntary”.
Ritzau has approached the Prime Minister’s Office for a comment from Prime Minister and Social Democrat chairman Mette Frederiksen. The Prime Minister’s Office refers to the party as it revolves around a party case.
The personal affairs committee of the Social Democrats’ youth party, DSU, is opening a sexism case against the former employee of the Social Democrats, as the seven women in Berlingske accuse of cross-border behavior.
DSU chairman Frederik Vad Nielsen has confirmed this to Politiken.
Two of the cases from Berlingske are related to DSU. It is these cases that DSU’s personal case committee takes up.
The former S employee has written to Berlingske that he apologizes if anyone has felt offended by him. However, he expresses that there are parts of the interpretation from the seven women that he does not recognize.
Jan Juul Christensen emphasizes that the party is cleaning up. He refers to the establishment of a visitation policy, a code of conduct, new guidelines and an independent legal system against abusive behavior.
– We have taken on the task. We should have done that much earlier. Now we are up and running and we try to do as much as possible so that we create a proper and safe organizational culture, he says.
