Violating rules prohibiting the provision of games on young people’s sports can result in a hefty fine.
It shows a judgment handed down by the Court in Odense. The company Betfair has been punished with a fine of 350,000 kroner, the prosecution in the Funen Police informs.
In 2017, the company had offered games at the European Championships in U17 women’s handball. Only a single bet of 20 kroner had been made.
The report to the police came from the Danish Gaming Authority, which believed that the fine should amount to 0.44 percent of the gaming provider’s net turnover.
Prosecutor Kirsten Flummer informs about the case, where a verdict was handed down on 25 May.
Betfair has not appealed to the Eastern High Court for a different result. Initially, the company pleaded not guilty, the prosecutor said.
In the Danish gaming legislation, it is forbidden to offer games at sporting events where the athletes are under 18 years of age.
The ban is due to a desire to prevent the emergence of an unhealthy culture in which young people may be involved in match-fixing.
