Utula Thule invites you to the 9th edition of Icelandic Day, a meeting related to the Icelandic national holiday celebrated on June 17. This year we meet exactly on the Icelandic holiday, and this year’s program focuses primarily on Icelandic culture. It is the second time that we meet online during talks and speeches by very interesting guests from various European cities.
At 1:00 p.m. Emilian Konopek with I will cuddle Thule invites you to a conversation about creating Icelandic national identity and how this process looked in art.
At 2 p.m. we will meet with Klaudia Gargaś (who runs a fanpage on Facebook “In Icelandic: Klaudia Gargaś”). It will explain to us whether the modern Icelandic language is still present in its pure form and what Icelandic linguistic purism is all about.
At 15:00 we will talk about the wool of Icelandic sheep. Katarzyna Płachta, the owner of the company, will tell us about its uniqueness Jigsknits.
At 4:00 p.m. there will be a meeting of translators who are also researchers of Old Scandinavian history and culture, cooperating with leading universities in the country and abroad, incl. University of Silesia and the Jagiellonian University. May 31 this year. The Akademicka Bookshop has published four volumes of Snorri Sturluson’s Heimskringli in a new translation. The members of the translation team agreed to talk about the work on the new edition.
5:00 p.m. it’s the time of Icelandic sounds. We will meet with Kaśka Paluch and Magda Łukasiak from Noise From Iceland and we will find out what Iceland sounds like.
Kaśka records the sounds of Iceland – geysers, waterfalls, volcanoes and glaciers. He talks to the islanders about their emotional relationship with nature and their favorite sounds. As a result, the first ever audio map of Iceland was created, available on the website www.noisefromiceland.com.
Finally, at 6 p.m. meeting with Icelandic literature. The author Steinunn Sigurdardóttir and translator Jacek Godek will talk about the book “Women with class” (published in Poland by Mova Publishing House).
