The PólÍs theater group won the Grímuverðlaun award

The PólÍs theater group was awarded a statuette in the debut of the year category during yesterday’s awards gala Icelandic theater community. Special thanks were sent to the Polish community in Iceland for the warm welcome.

The ensemble staged a theatrical performance entitled “What a crazy idea” in Tjarnarbíó earlier this year. The performance is a joint project of Polish and Icelandic stage artists.

Salvör Gullbrá Þórarinsdóttir, the director of the work, and Ólafur Ásgeirsson received an award called the debut of the year (sproti ársins) at Grímuverðlaunahátíð, a gala held yesterday in Tjarnarbíó.

“It’s clear it’s time to entertain Poles in Iceland” Ólafur said. “Since the first idea has already been implemented, another one came to our minds and it reads: Why don’t we adopt Polish instead of Danish in primary schools? How many Danes do you know who live in Iceland? But that’s just an idea. “

The play tells the story of Cuba, who is the chef, and the actors: Ola and Óli, who decide to try to create a popular play in Polish. Jakub Ziemann and Aleksandra Skołożyńska played the roles of Kuba and Ola.
