According to the report, Finland’s main challenges are combating climate change, finding more sustainable production and consumption methods and preventing the loss of biodiversity.
prime minister Sanna Marin, who is also the chairman of the Finnish National Commission for Sustainable Development, has stated that the country ‘s success is the result of the long – term efforts and contribution of its citizens.
He argued that Finland must now focus on achieving all the UN’s sustainable development goals by 2030, and also emphasized the importance of securing the future without exceeding the carrying capacity of the planet.
The report found that the COVID-19 pandemic has been a setback to sustainable development in general, with the 2020 average index point falling for the first time since 2015, when targets were first adopted. This is largely due to the increase in poverty and unemployment caused by the pandemic.
