Red City King gladly took a stand against the party top

Red City King gladly took a stand against the party top

The topic was the placement of a toll ring in the metropolitan area, where several Social Democratic Vestegn municipalities suddenly stood on the wrong side of the toll wall.

The object of the anger was the then Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt (S).

– You can of course choose the road that the Minister of Transport from Jutland has indicated, but then you choose something valuable from, and you will make a historically burning and limiting cut in the capital area.

– And you want to make a cut in your party that will have consequences. Never in my consciousness will you get acceptance, it was written in the letter at the time in 2011 according to Berlingske.

Former mayor of Herlev Kjeld Hansen, who turns 70 on Tuesday 15 June, is a man who is not afraid to speak out against the party leadership, and who is passionate about Herlev at Copenhagen’s Vestegn.

The payment ring, which as you know never became a reality, was not the only thing that could make Kjeld Hansen shout when he was active in politics.

Together with other mayors of Vestegnen in the Greater Copenhagen area, he helped to pull the Social Democrats to the right in immigration policy with criticism that the party’s position was too lax.

Since then, however, the policy became too tight for Kjeld Hansen’s taste.

Kjeld Hansen was originally educated as an academy engineer and has previously been employed as an office manager in the Ministry of the Environment.

His political career started as a board member of the Social Democrats in Herlev from 1984.

He was first elected to the municipal council in 1986, became mayor in 1996 and was mayor with an absolute majority in the back until 2011.

In 2018, he was named “Herlevit of the Year” by Herlev Bladet, among other things for his efforts for the local association life.

Kjeld Hansen, who has previously received the Knight’s Cross from Queen Margrethe, acknowledged as follows:

– Sorry, Margrethe (the queen, ed.), But this is bigger, he said according to Herlev Bladet at the poll.

In recent years, Kjeld Hansen has, among other things, been chairman of the local football club and also announced on his departure that he should spend more time on fishing trips and see large football stadiums with his grandson.
