Lions to Belarus
Brøndby is the second Danish team in the Champions League qualifier, but they will only participate in the tournament round.
In the new Conference League, FC Copenhagen and AGF Aarhus also got their opponents to the second qualifying phase.
FCK meets FC Torpedo-Belaz Zhodino from Belarus, while AGF meets either Bala Town FC from Wales or Larne FC from Northern Ireland.
Aalborg misses creating history
Aalborg missed out on becoming the first Danish team to win the Champions League in handball when they lost to Barcelona in the final. Already a feeling of reaching the final, the Danes were crushed by the Spanish giants 23-36. It was Barcelona’s tenth CL title since 1991. The last time a Danish team was in a CL final was far back in 1976, when Fredericia YMCA also finished as second best. The Danish star Mikkel Hansen is going to Aalborg next year from Paris St Germain.
100 m mark broken
Kojo Musah is the new owner of the Danish 100 m men’s mark after running a blistering time of 10.17 seconds in a track meeting in the Czech Republic. The previous record of 10.26 was set by Kristoffer Hari two years ago. Earlier this year, Musah also set a new Danish record in 60 meters. To automatically qualify for the Olympics in Tokyo, Musah must run a 10.05, although he can qualify via ranking points.
The women’s 100m relay set a new record
The Danisn women’s 100 meter relay team set a new national record at a meeting in Geneva with a time of 43.71 seconds. The previous record was 43.90 seconds. Emma Beiter Bomme, Astrid Glenner-Frandsen, Mathilde Kramer and Mette Graversgaard had already qualified for the Olympics in Tokyo in May. The men’s 100m relay will also take part in Tokyo.
Barca see under-21 boss
There have been news that Barcelona are considering signing Denmark’s Under 21 coach Albert Capellas. According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Capellas has met the Spanish giants about a possible coaching role in the club. From 1999-2003 he was an assistant on Barcelona’s B team. Capellas has had a very successful enchantment as Denmark’s under 21 coach and recently extended his contact until 2023.
FCK seasonal car sales are rising
After a year with a limited presence of fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FC Copenhagen has reported a record number of season ticket holders for the coming season. With about a month before the season starts, 14,500 fans have secured season tickets, significantly higher than the previous record of about 12,700. The club plans to launch a new fan-village experience for fans in the coming season.
Danish Zidan is going to Germany
FC Nordsjælland have revealed that they have sold the bright star Zidan Sertdemir to the Bundesliage side Bayer Leverkusen. The 16-year-old Danish central midfielder with Turkish roots has signed a three-year deal with the Germans. Sertdemir, who has several youth caps for Denmark, joined FCN from Brøndby back in 2012.
AGF gets Premier League pedigree
AGF Aarhus announced that they will bring in Dave Reddington as assistant coach in the coming season. Reddington has spent time as a first-team coach at Crystal Palace under former England and FC Copenhagen manager Roy Hodgson. He has also been in coaching positions at Watford.
