Birth rates increased by 23.5 per cent in Lohja and by 11.5 per cent in Hyvinkää compared to the previous year. By comparison, the birth rate in the entire HUS area increased by only about 1.3 percent in 2019-2020.
Seppo HeinonenHUS, Director of Gynecology and Obstetrics, has said the COVID baby boom is a “real phenomenon” and has had a significant impact on district birth rates.
Heinonen emphasizes that despite the increase in the number of births, maternity safety has not decreased. HUS expects the birth rate to increase further in the summer.
