Many people know and associate this place. Litla Kaffistofan is located on Suðurlandsvegur in Svínahraun, on road no. 1. It was opened on June 4, 1960 and is still open today. It is owned by the Olís company, which has rented the premises and has been run for the last five years by the couple Svanur Fannberg Gunnarsson and Katrín Hjálmarsdóttir.
During the epidemic, the number of visitors dropped sharply and the cafe will be closed at the end of July. This is how the over 60-year history of this place ends.
According to information from Olís, operations can no longer be continued and will be completed on July 31. It is not known whether there will be new hosts. “It was a good time for us, but running this business has become difficult” Says Svanur. He also says that a large number of those who visit this place are regular guests, and among them it is often possible to make good friends.
One of the regulars is Sigurjón Guðmundsson, foreman at Loftorka. “It’s a very friendly place and it’s nice to be here and eat well” Sigurjón says. “There is very good homemade food here” – he adds.
When asked if she will miss Litla Kaffistofan, she replies that she will.
Another regular guest is Árni Jóhannsson. “We come here for lunch every day because we work nearby,” says Árni. The favorite dish of Árnie and his colleagues is haddock. When asked where he will eat when the restaurant closes, he says: “We have to sort this out somehow. But maybe something will change in the meantime. Who knows?”.
