The number of inpatients decreases by eight to 76. You have to go back to 21 September last year to find a corresponding number of inpatients.
According to Viggo Andreasen, associate professor of mathematical epidemiology at Roskilde University, the figures show that it is the right way to fight back the corona.
– It shows that we have really good control over the normal corona, the Alpha variant B117, it is not growing.
– Maybe it is even a little diminishing when we look over a slightly longer period, he says.
On Tuesday, the contact number was calculated at 0.8 for the second week in a row. This means that ten infected people pass the infection on to eight. Thus, the epidemic is declining.
But the match has not been won yet, Viggo Andreasen emphasizes.
The so-called Delta variant, which was first discovered in India, is on the rise – both at home and abroad.
– The Delta variant is now clearly growing in Denmark, and in the long run this means that it will become the dominant type, says Viggo Andreasen.
Since 1 April, 215 cases of the Delta variant have been registered in Denmark. In recent weeks, according to Viggo Andreasen, it has grown at an alarming rate.
– The Delta variant has actually grown from nine cases in week 20 to 57 in week 23. And the 57 is a preliminary number that may well increase when all the positive samples from that week are sequenced.
The Delta variant is more contagious than the common corona variant, and it also suggests that it is more severe and associated with a greater risk of hospitalization.
– Right now we have a race between how many have been vaccinated and how many are infected.
– It is currently unclear whether the Delta variant will have time to win that race and create a major epidemic before we get home with the vaccines, says Viggo Andreasen.
The latest figures from the Serum Institute show that 50.9 percent of the population has received at least one vaccine sting against covid-19.
27.6 percent have received both plugs and are considered fully vaccinated.
Two new corona-related deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours. In total, 2530 people have passed away after being diagnosed with covid-19.
