By helicopter, a person – probably a man – was flown to Rigshospitalet the night before Monday, after he had been seriously burned in connection with a building fire in the center of Vordingborg.
A woman was also injured when an explosive fire broke out in the basement of the building. This is stated by the duty officer at the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police Michael Skræddergaard on Monday morning.
The woman fell due to the tremors, so she has not sustained burn injuries.
– It was a rather violent fire with extensive damage. The building has more or less collapsed, says the chief of guards.
The building is located in Riddergade in Vordingborg. It caught fire around 11.30pm. The first reports reached the police at 23.31 from various witnesses.
The effort to put out the fire lasted for several hours. Only at 06.45 could the task leader announce that the work on site had been completed.
Due to the extensive firefighting work, the early morning traffic was diverted by Home Guard personnel.
What the cause of the fire is is not yet known.
– The case is now with the Department of Dangerous Crime. It happens when there is an injury in a fire. They must now work further with it and, among other things, try to find out the cause of the fire, says Michael Skræddergaard.
During the night, it was reported that the fire was “under control”, but also that it kept flaring up and that homes close by may have experienced an explosion as “powerful”. The extent of the explosion is unknown.
However, there is no information on Monday morning that other buildings have been damaged by the fire.
