Passengers will be able to board public buses through any door without showing the driver the fare, subject to further elaboration of this law. This is due to the amendment to the law on subsidies, which was approved by Althingi before the end of the parliament’s work before the summer break. The change also better defines the temporal activity of foreign multiplayer vehicles.
Jóhannes Svavar Rúnarsson, CEO of Strætó, says it will depend on where the scanners are in the car, and it will be possible to enter these cars without showing a ticket. The idea is that when Borgarlínan is put into service, you will be able to pay at the stop and then enter through any door.
A fine for not having a ticket
The new law allows for the imposition of a fine on a person who has not paid the fare on public transport. The mandate can be up to 30,000 kronor. This opened a new and more effective solution in relation to the collection of fees and monitoring of what was previously in the hands of the coach driver.
The law allows companies operating in the public transport industry to process personal data to the extent deemed necessary for the payment and control of fees. Tickets are increasingly purchased through payment cards and the Internet.
Transport of guests
The discussed legal changes also limit the licenses for operating foreign companies providing multi-person transport services from the EEA in such a way that they can work here only for 10 days on the basis of a foreign license. This temporary activity is therefore better defined in the law after the amendment to the name “transport of visitors”.
