According to the latest Faxaflói port schedules, 92 cruise ships with 60,000 passengers are expected by the end of the year. At the beginning of the year, 198 cruise ships with around 217,000 passengers called at Faxaflói ports.
Ship flows are still based on expectations for the number of passenger ships, and many things could change by the fall. For example, only seven cruise ships arrived last year, despite the large number of bookings.
The first cruise ship is expected on Thursday 24 June, and this is it Viking Skywhich will remain in the capital until June 27. The ship can carry 930 passengers, but about 400 seats were reserved for the first voyage. She expects that with the approaching vacation, the number of passengers on the ship will increase.
Viking Sky sails to Iceland without passengers. Passengers will arrive in the country via Keflavík Airport and will be vaccinated. They are required to comply with the current airport control rules related to the coronavirus outbreak, without any exceptions.
Large ships will not moor to the shores of Iceland
If all goes well, passenger ship traffic will start to grow steadily in July.
This year it will be mainly small and medium-sized ships. There is a small chance that large cruise ships will call in Iceland. Several of these moorings are still reserved, but based on last year’s experience, large ships are likely to be canceled as time goes on.
The booking status at Faxaflóahöfn for 2022 is very good and looks set to be a record year for ship calls and passenger numbers, if all goes to plan.
