Salminen: Recipients of the first dose form a significant number of infections in Finland

Salminen: Recipients of the first dose form a significant number of infections in Finland

Still, the number of infections is on the rise. THL said on Wednesday that as many as 664 new infections have been detected in the country, marking more than 600 new infections for the second consecutive day.

Salminen reminded the broadcaster that while the first vaccine injection does not protect the recipient from being infected by the virus, it does protect him from serious forms of the coronavirus, Covid-19.

– Vaccines are becoming more and more infected. A significant number of infections are currently being detected in people who have received their first dose of the vaccine, ”he commented.

“We are only talking about a few percent, and we understand that no one has had a serious disease in Finland,” he added when asked how many people got the virus after both vaccines. “These cases focus on higher age groups where the immune response is not as strong as in young people.”

YLE on Wednesday reported that 14 infections have been detected among the staff and patients of the assisted facility in Lassila in the western part of Helsinki. The majority of those infected had received both vaccines, and only two patients developed severe symptoms of infection.

He stressed that there is no reason to worry about the effectiveness of vaccines based on the prevalence of vaccinated infections.

“The phenomenon is entirely to be expected because vaccines do not completely prevent infections, but they do not make people seriously ill. However, one injection is not enough, so take another injection. After that, the protection is as good as possible. “

Salminen also admitted that it is premature to talk about a normal recovery.
