Stockholm [Sweden], July 30 (ANI): A demonstration was held in front of the Pakistani embassy in Sweden on Friday where protesters claimed that Pakistan was involved in a proxy war in Afghanistan.
According to an official statement, a group of 50 to 60 people, including those from Afghanistan, staged a peaceful protest in front of the Pakistani embassy in Sweden, raised slogans and held placards against Pakistan’s alleged involvement in waging a proxy war in Afghanistan.
Protesters were escorted by Swedish police.
They gave short speeches in English, Swedish, Urdu, Pashto and Dari (Persian), claiming that Pakistan’s inter-service intelligence supports the Taliban.
Protesters carried “Stop the war in Afghanistan”, “Stop killing Afghans” and “Stop supporting the Taliban” signs. The demonstrators handed a letter to the Pakistani ambassador to an official at the embassy before spreading peacefully.
Earlier, the Afghan diaspora held demonstrations in several cities, including Washington, Brussels and in cities in Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom, against Pakistan for supporting the Taliban in Afghanistan.
They protested against Pakistan’s support for the Taliban and their interference in Afghan affairs. They also protested against the abduction of Silsila Alikhil, daughter of Afghan envoy Najibullah Alikhil on July 16 in the Pakistani capital Islamabad.
The Taliban has intensified its offensive against civilian and Afghan defense and security forces as foreign forces withdraw from the war-torn country.
In addition, ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated since the abduction of Silsila Alikhil. Kabul then recalled its ambassador from Islamabad and demanded punishment from those responsible.
Since May, the Taliban have also taken control of Afghanistan’s crucial border crossings with Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. (ANI)
