Tokyo [Japan], 5 August (ANI): India wrestler Vinesh Phogat advanced to the quarterfinals in women’s freestyle 53 kg at the Olympics in Tokyo after defeating Sweden’s Sofia Magdalena Mattsson here in Makuhari Messe Hall A Mat B on Thursday.
Indian number one Sofia Magdalena Mattsson dominated the whole match and won the match 7-1 in the 1/8 final.
The 26-year-old Vinesh started the match with all weapons in flames and took the unanswered 5 points against the Swedish catcher with his brutal strength and agility.
Vinesh continued to charge against Sofia Mattsson in the second half when she took two more points while the Swedish wrestler squeezed the match’s only points.
Earlier in the day, Anshu Malik bowed out of Tokyo 2020 after losing to Russian Olympic Committee Valeria Koblova in the 57kg freestyle for women. Koblova defeated the Indian 5-1. Anshu participated in his virginity games and fought bravely but could not have a chance against the experienced pros. (ANI)
