Christianites find no solution to eliminate cannabis trade

According to initiator and resident Klaus Danzer, the turnout on Sunday was historically large, but a plan for how to remove the cannabis trade from Pusher Street has not been approached.

At the moment, it is impossible to do anything, the message reads.

– Nothing was unequivocally concluded at the meeting. It is quite clear that there are no easy, quick solutions, says Klaus Danzer.

Pusher Street is going to pass, and residents are not getting it closed.

– No, we have decided not to do that. It would only have a temporary effect. All the times we’ve done it, held it for a short period of time, and then it started all over again, he says.

He acknowledges that it is the status quo after the meeting. The residents have agreed to meet again in the near future.

What could be agreed at the meeting was that the only sustainable solution is to legalize cannabis sales.

– If one can at all conclude something that people agree on, it is that it is our legislation that is the problem. That is, that cannabis is criminalized, and that has these consequences, he says.

Politically, however, this does not suggest that a majority can be found for a decriminalization of cannabis.

Sophie Hæstorp Andersen (S), who is running for mayor in Copenhagen, has, however, announced that she wants to legalize it.

– In the Social Democrats in Copenhagen, we want our city to be a pioneering city and will therefore seek support in the Folketing to – first and foremost on a trial basis – regulate the sale of cannabis through a legalization, she has written on her Facebook profile in this week.

The many residents of Christiania have gone to war against Pusher Street because they are tired of crime and hard drugs in the area and do not believe that the sellers comply with the rules that Christiania has for the sale of cannabis.

Specifically, the overall announcement came from the over 100 residents after a 22-year-old man was killed by gunfire at the entrance to Pusher Street in July.
