Pia Cramling has been a professional chess player for 30 years. She is the grandmaster and the highest ranked female player in Sweden.
She started playing chess at the age of 10 and participated as a fifteen-year-old in the Chess Olympics in Argentina in 1978.
Pia Cramling shares several experiences with the character Beth in the TV series “The Queen’s Gambit” and has worked in various ways to encourage girls and women to compete in chess.
In her Summer, Pia Cramling tells that chess is her passion and how chess became her life.
– I have often been amazed that a board with 64 black and white squares with strange figures on it became more important and more positive than almost anything else in my life.
