– The majority of the interpreters have landed at Copenhagen Airport. It is about 30 people who are estimated to have interpreted for Danish soldiers, she says.
– Since the weekend, more than 250 applications have been received through the interpreting agreement. But it is the 30 who are currently considered to have collaborated with Danish soldiers.
The remaining cases have been assessed not to be covered by the scheme for interpreters who have collaborated with Danish soldiers.
Some of them have been rejected, while others have been sent for assessment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see if they have otherwise worked for Denmark or otherwise qualify to be evacuated.
In addition to the interpreters, others are also evacuated from Afghanistan to Denmark – for example, people who have worked at the Danish embassy.
According to Trine Bramsen, the rapidly escalating situation in Afghanistan has been reflected in the number of applications through the interpreting scheme.
– There were quite a few applications when we went out of July. Since the weekend, 250 applications have been received. There are people sitting around the clock processing the applications, says the Minister of Defense.
– Therefore also an invitation: If you are an interpreter and have collaborated with the Danish defense and Danish soldiers, then you must apply. And one must apply now. The time for how long we can continue to evacuate is running out. If you do not apply, we can not help.
Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod (S) said on Friday that there are reports that it is very difficult to get into the airport in Kabul.
– The situation is enormously challenging, he says on Friday.
