And Rasmus Lyberth, who turns 70 on 21 August, is one of the few who has sung in Greenlandic in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix. He did so with the song “Father’s Prayer” in 1979.
Some of what he likes to sing about is life, which he “admires”.
– I admire that life is so short and you do not know where to go afterwards.
– So you can just as well enjoy it, ask it, be interested in it and be grateful for it, he says.
His work has also won numerous honors. These include the PH Prize and the LO Prize.
In addition, last year he was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize for the album “Life must be lived again” from 2019.
– Rasmus Lyberth fills the whole room with his big voice, whether he sings in Greenlandic or Danish, or without words, he expresses the message of the text and the song through the way he sings.
– The text, the melody and the voice become one, were some of the words of praise in the motivation.
But it is not only in the world of music that Lyberth has unfolded his talent.
He is a trained actor at the Greenlandic Tuukkaq Theater and has acted in several plays.
He has also appeared in the films “Tukuma” and “Heart of Light”. In the latter, he had the lead role.
On his birthday he will give a concert in the culture house Katuaq in Nuuk.
– I want to say thank you for hearing my music, he says.
Privately, Rasmus Lyberth is married to Annette Bogø Lyberth. They have a child together, and in addition he has three children from his first marriage and seven grandchildren.
