The number of children wearing bicycle helmets is at an all-time high, according to the latest survey conducted by the Danish Road Safety Council.
About 82 percent of school children wear helmets – a marked increase over previous years.
A good forecast
The Council for Safe Traffic spokeswoman Rosa Nissen welcomes the development.
She sees this as an indicator that the number of head injuries, which can have particularly bad consequences for children, will decrease.
The two-year survey began in 2004, when the total number of helmets was only 33 percent.
Differences between ages
In addition to the overall increase, the study also found differences between age categories.
Children ages six to nine had the highest proportion with 94 percent, while only 63 percent of 12-year-olds wore them.
