The government said on Friday that it had decided to launch an evaluation of the evacuation efforts in Afghanistan.
An inter-ministerial group – consisting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Immigration and Integration Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and relevant underlying authorities – will be responsible for the evaluation.
Michael Aastrup Jensen says that he was not informed about the evaluation before the government announced it.
– We must conclude that the government does not want to be cooperative. Therefore, we will take the initiative to enter into dialogue with the other parties outside the government and make a model that all parliamentary parties can agree on, he says.
Michael Aastrup Jensen says that his goal is to gather a majority for an independent study.
– We can not have the government to investigate itself. I also expect a majority in the Folketing to agree with this.
The government justifies the evaluation on the grounds that the course of the evacuation calls for thorough reflection.
– It is important that we look at what kind of situation we have been in with Kabul’s unforeseen collapse and chaos.
– We must thoroughly evaluate our evacuation efforts. We will do it according to the same model as we did after the terrorist attacks in Copenhagen in 2015, so we get a factual review of the process, says Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod (S) about the evaluation.
