Naser Khader, who is a non-attached member of the Folketing, says that he has asked “a handful” of lawyers to assess whether he could sue the women who in various media have accused him of sexual abuse.
– The assessment from all the lawyers I have spoken to is that not one of the women accuses me of anything criminal. No one is saying “rape”, “pressure” or “violence”, and then one cannot use the libel law, he says.
On Thursday evening, Weekendavisen reported that Naser Khader has given up plans to sue the women, who in various media have accused him of sexual abuse.
In Weekendavisen, Khader’s lawyer Bjarke Vejby says that two of the women make allegations which – if they are used as a basis in a lawsuit – may be considered illegal. He has reviewed the legal investigation launched by the Conservatives
The two women Naser Khader has not chosen to sue either.
– The lawyer has said that it is not certain that one would win.
– In the description of it, one can say that it is under the defamation law, but he also advises me not to do it because it is not certain I would win, because there are no direct allegations of illegalities, he says.
He adds that he also thinks it has been very grueling and hard.
– I thought I must eat it and see to move on, he says.
The weekend newspaper has also published an article about the legal investigation that the Conservatives launched. According to the newspaper, the report contains no conclusions.
It was the report that made party chairman Søren Pape Poulsen say that Naser Khader could not continue in the Conservatives.
A unanimous parliamentary group backed that Khader should no longer be a member of the party.
– An association decision has been made, and I respect that. It is not a legal decision, says Naser Khader.
He also says that he intends to continue as a non-attached member of the Folketing until the next election.
