The electric scooters present have become a popular travel device since they were launched in the city in 2019. However, they have been associated with numerous accidents and injuries this summer.
Services such as Meilahti First Aid and Tรถรถlรถ Hospital have reported a sharp rise rise in scooter injuries after May. A significant number of e-scooter accidents have been reported due to intoxication, especially late at night on weekends.
The City of Helsinki is monitoring the effects of the new restrictions to determine whether they affect the number of e-Scooter accidents. Depending on the outcome of the trial, the city may extend the weekend ban and speed regulation beyond 2021.
