“With this group of experts, we will have the opportunity for the authorities to turn all the stones that need to be turned in this situation,” he says.
The purpose of the group of experts, which Kofod describes as “extremely well-qualified”, is to ensure that an external perspective on the effort will be included in the authorities’ evaluation.
– It is the authorities who have knowledge of what they have done along the way and can make a statement and evaluation of it.
– And then this group – with their professionalism and insight into it – can inquire into things and turn things around. All the reference group’s comments will be reflected in the authorities’ mapping and evaluation, says Jeppe Kofod.
The group is composed of representatives from organizations with concrete experience from Afghanistan and experts with special knowledge in the field.
The group includes Anders Ladekarl, Secretary General of the Danish Red Cross, and Charlotte Slente, Secretary General of the Danish Refugee Council.
At the same time, it also includes David Vestenskov from the Defense Academy and Mona Kanwal Sheikh, who is a researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies.
The blue parties in the Folketing want a former chief of defense to be responsible for an investigation into the course of Denmark’s exit from Afghanistan. According to the Liberal Party, this will make the study external and impartial.
However, this is not planned with the external expert group. The investigation is still the responsibility of the authorities themselves.
