The tourist they were looking for in and around Seyðisfjörður was found dead at 7 p.m. on the Strandartindur mountain slopes yesterday. He is a foreign citizen who has most likely fallen off a cliff.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the police in the region, which is investigating the case. It does not intend to provide any further information yet.
The search began yesterday afternoon after the man’s friends had lost contact with him on the phone, though they knew he was on his way to Strandartind. At least sixty rescuers from eastern and northeastern Iceland participated in the search. The area was difficult sections characterized by steep cliffs.
The police would like to thank the rescue teams who did everything in their power in these demanding conditions for their help.
