The Icelandic Meteorological Bureau warns residents and travelers of the strong and gusty winds that are announced on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and elsewhere in the Southwest.
Drivers planning a trip should take extra care in the west of the country around Mount Hafnarfjall, in the north of the Snæfellsnes peninsula and on the Reykjanesbraut road.
This afternoon wind strength at the foot of Mount Hafnarfjall is expected to reach 30 to 35 m / s. The worst conditions will be from 6 pm to 9 pm. Equally strong gusts of wind and rain, which will make driving very difficult, are expected on Reykjanesbraut street and on the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
Strong winds are associated with the low-atmospheric zone of the Greenland Sea. According to forecasts posted on the Icelandic Meteorological Bureau website, today it caused an intensifying southeast wind and rain in the south and west of the country.
At night, the wind force will decrease and, as predicted by weather forecasts, tomorrow it will blow about 5 to 10 m / s and rainfall is expected.
