Every tenth child accepts parental punishment from parents

Every tenth child accepts parental punishment from parents

The number has been steadily increasing since 2014, when only three percent of the children surveyed found it okay. In 2017, the share was five percent.

The development is shocking and disturbing, writes Save the Children in a press release.

– This study is a clear and sad reminder that far too many children still do not know that they have the right to grow up without violence, and we will simply have to change that.

– Children must know that they have the right to a life without violence. If they do not know, they can not say no, take care of each other and ask for help if mother or father strikes, says Deputy Secretary General Jane Tynell in the press release.

In the survey, more than a thousand Danish school children from sixth to tenth grade were asked about their knowledge of their own and others’ rights. Unicef also describes the increase as worrying.
