– It is important that we get a law made that keeps the hand under welfare, regardless of whether there is a red or blue government, says Nicolai Wammen.
He does not believe the law will exempt politicians from making political choices and priorities.
– The fact that we are laying a foundation under the welfare society does not mean that you do not have to constantly look at how to make things smarter and more efficient.
The Welfare Act is part of the understanding paper that secured the power of the Social Democrats. It has aroused extremely harsh criticism from the supporting parties that the law has been postponed several times due to the corona pandemic.
The Welfare Act is crucial for securing a bottom under welfare in the future, it sounds from SF and the Unity List.
– It is a step forward, because it will be a protection against the sharp deterioration of our welfare, says Rune Lund, finance spokesman for the Unity List.
– But the Welfare Act will only be an absolute minimum. And it is no guarantee of restoration and expansion of our welfare, which we need after many years of cuts and deterioration, he says.
The law will ensure that money from welfare can not be used for, for example, tax relief in the future, says Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, finance spokesperson for SF.
– We have said time and time again that we must at least have a growth that corresponds to more young people and the elderly. Otherwise, one cannot have a welfare society in the future because it will be too bad and poor, she says.
Technically, the law must oblige any government to let public consumption follow what is called the demographic trait.
It is an expression of the fact that the composition of the population is changing. In the area of โโthe elderly, for example, there will be more elderly people in the coming years.
They must then either be more elderly to share the same amount of money in the Finance Act, or more money must be spent annually in the area.
The government will secure the latter by making it law that every government must secure it on the Finance Act.
The Ministry of Finance has calculated that until 2025 each year it will require an increase of between 2.75 and 3 billion kroner each year if the expenditure is to reflect the changes in the composition of the population.
The Danish People’s Party has previously been positive about securing welfare against the demographic development with a law, while the Liberal Party has been skeptical about the Welfare Act and has called for a plan for how it should be financed.
A welfare law will be a law like any other that can be passed and removed by the current majority in the Folketing.
Thus, any future bourgeois majority can remove the law, just as quickly as a majority can pass it if it so desires.
